Slender or spindly?

Sigh. Body image anxiety follows one into SL. Guess it just goes to prove the immortal words of Buckaroo Banzai: "No matter where you go... there you are."

I like having long legs. Really long legs. Most of the time, I think they look good. Some examples:But then I look at other pictures, like these:
and I don't see slender; I see spindly, especially when I compare myself with others on SL. (I hope Natalia won't mind if I cite her as an example of someone on SL with incredible legs.) I guess I need to spend some time with the sliders and more importantly deciding what I really want.

Well, beloved, I think the answer is not to compare yourself with others. I personaly think you have wonderful legs, and would be more than happy for them to stay as they are. However, it is a matter of what makes you happy, not me, and considering how amazing you look now, I am sure you will look even better if you decide to go tweaking a little! Whatever, you will still have me, mind body and soul, however yopu look.

I've thought a lot about body image in SL as well. I designed my avatar and she came out looking like Barbie. But I loved Barbie when I was growing up and I'm not ashamed to admit that I love looking like her in SL. I think you are beautiful the way you are Melissa. Inside and out!

You're a beautiful person, it doesn't matter if your legs are long or short or whatever. If someone misses out on you because of the setting of an avatar slider in a virtual game, well, it's their loss.

All that matters is if you are happy with how you look, and are being what you desire. The rest is just opinion.

FWIW, I always find the concept of "balance" in proportion to be the ideal for me, personally.

When I'm looking for models for Second Style that's really what I'm after. But this is *your* Second Life, not mine, nor anyone else's.

So I suggest you experiment with your shape a little. If you make a copy of your current shape before you change anything you have a painless "backout" option.

Congrats on your recent content win. :-D

Melissa, you look gorgeous and wonderful! I wished I had legs like that, in RL and SL :)

SL is just a projection of who you are. We all know that we can tweak sliders, so we choose the look we like, possibly even based on our moods.

I think I just have "average" legs, cause most of my body settings are at or near default, actually. My AV is a bit on the short side (at 5'7"), which is a midget in SL. I didnt have the courage to push the sliders like you and Sorcha :)

And I avoid sit poses like the plague :P

Natalia: the average height for American women in RL is 5'4", so at 5'7" you're still taller than average! (The mean is easy to look up; I wish they had the standard deviation info as well.)
